abstract = "This work presents some preliminary results of the use of the
fractal box counting method to estimate the roughness in fungal
mycelia colonies, named pellets. A relationship between fractal
dimension and roughness is established. Considering that the
format of fungal colonies is approximately spherical and
symmetric, a section of a microscopic image of a pellet is used in
a threshold method to detect its border, which determines a curve.
The fractal box couting method is applied to this curve.",
